Navigation Certificate Application
Back to Navigation Certificate home.
To receive the Navigator Certificate, you must show that you have learned the material in this section and show that you can apply what you have learned.
These are the steps to take to earn Navigator Certification:
1) Study the material in this section.
2) Observe the objects listed in this section.
3) Complete a drawing of either Copernicus or Archimedes.
4) Complete the Observation Exercises on the next several pages. Print the pages from your web browser.
Read the preceding material (print the maps by using your browsers print function or use a lunar Atlas such as Antonin Rukl's Atlas of the Moon.
When you are comfortable with the names and the relative locations, move to the eyepiece. Observe the features listed on the maps. Keep a log of your observations. You should also draw what you observe.
We've introduced here only a few of the objects visible in even the smallest telescopes. As you observe these features, you will encounter dozens more. Some of these will probably be part of the next two certificate exercises, some may not. Keep a record of what objects that you want to return to later.
Make a drawing of either the crater Copernicus or the crater Archimedes.
After you have observed all of the objects listed on the maps here, print out and complete the observation exercises. (Do not try them until you have done the observing!)
Send in your application materials, including your name,
address, and (if you have one) your e-mail address, to:
